Applying for an Absentee Ballot

Changes are in place for the November 3, 2020 election due to COVID-19.  Please see information on the main page of our website or call 859-255-8683 for information.

Voters who meet the qualifications to vote an absentee ballot by mail may call 859-255-8683 to request an application for a ballot or they may email a request for an application to the elections department at voters@fayettecountyclerk.com.  Please include the reason for the request, the voter's name, date of birth, and Fayette County address.  Voters who will not be at their Fayette County address to receive their application should also include their out of county address.  Once the completed application is returned by mail, or in person by the voter, the absentee ballot and instructions for voting the ballot will be mailed to the voter.  The application may only be requested by the voter, the voter's spouse, parent, or child.

Voters who meet the qualifications to vote an absentee ballot in person prior to election day may do so during the walk-in absentee voting period.  Voters must present their identification and complete an application stating the reason for voting absentee.  In Fayette County the hours for absentee voting in the office are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Call the office at 859-255-8683 for the in-person absentee voting dates before each election.

Voters who need to cast a mail-in ballot due to military service or voters who live overseas may also apply for a ballot through the Federal Voting Assistance Program or the State Board of Elections.
