Becoming a Candidate
Procedures for qualifying and running for office are established by the Kentucky Constitution and the Kentucky Revised Statutes. For information on candidate filing procedures, qualifications for each office and to print filing forms, you may visit the Kentucky Secretary of State. All filing forms are also available in the Elections Department of the Fayette County Clerk's Office.
Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Offices: Procedures for running for Mayor, Council At-Large, or District Council are established by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Charter. For filing forms click here or visit the Fayette County Clerk's Office.
Candidates wishing to start their campaign before they are allowed to officially file for office with the Secretary of State or County Clerk may file a "Letter of Intent" with the Registry of Election Finance in Frankfort.
