Marriage Licenses

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING A MARRIAGE LICENSE DURING OFFICE CLOSURE:

  • Marriage licenses may be obtained by appointment only at this time. Please follow the link at the bottom of this page to schedule an appointment.  Though both parties are required to be at the appointment, only 1 of the parties needs to schedule an appointment.  **See note regarding the week of October 26-30, 2020.**
  • Marriage licenses must be used within 30 days, so please schedule within 30 days of your ceremony.
  • We require that you complete our worksheet and either bring it with you to your appointment or email ahead of time to fccinquiry@fayettecountyclerk.com. If you are unable to print off the worksheet, please write down or email the answers to the worksheet questions before arriving for your appointment.
  • Both parties must be present with identification in order to complete your license application.
  • You will only be applying for your marriage license at our office.  If you wish to schedule a civil ceremony with a government official, please consult the list of names and numbers available under Marriage License Timeline on our site.
  • All completed marriage licenses must be mailed back to our office or dropped in our garage drop box. Once recorded, your certificate will be mailed to you at the address you designate during the application process.
  • Masks must be worn during your appointment.
All appointments are located at the Fayette County Clerk's Office, 162 E. Main Street, Lexington, Ky 40507. Please park in the Helix Garage at this address. At your designated appointment time, proceed to the 2nd floor entrance to check in. You will then be directed to Room 132. If you do not have the proper documentation needed for your transaction you will be asked to reschedule.

**For the week of October 26 - 30, 2020 we will be testing a new system for marriage licensing.  If you wish to apply for a marriage license that week, please come to the 2nd floor check-in table in the Helix Parking Garage for instructions to place yourself in the virtual 'line'.  All appointments previously scheduled for that week will be honored.**
