Renewal of a Kentucky Boat Registration
What you will need:
- Original Certificate of Registration (Photocopies are not acceptable)
- Social Security Number for each owner on the registration or Federal Tax ID Number for companies
- If the original registration is not available, the current registered owner must sign an Affidavit for Replacement (TC96-167) and have their signature notarized (See Example). There will be an additional $6.00 fee for the replacement. (If notarized outside our office - $3.00)
- Add $2.00 for postage and handling per registration for mail in renewal
Boat registrations are renewed annually in April. Boat renewals may be processed in the county of residence or in the county of dockage.
Expired registrations cannot be renewed by mail.
The Department of Revenue mails a courtesy notice in the month prior to expiration showing tax and registration fees due.

Property Tax
Property tax for your vehicles, trailers and boats are assessed by the Property Valuation Administrator on January 1st of each year. You are responsible for property tax for any boat registered to you on January 1.
Taxes are collected upon renewal or registration change. If a boat is transferred prior to renewal, the January 1st owner is responsible for the taxes on that boat.
Registration Fees:
$31.00 - 1 ft. to 16 ft.
$50.00 - 16 ft. to 26ft.
$60.00 - 26 ft. to 40 ft.
$75.00 - 40 ft. and over
$20.00 - Trolling Motors
$53.00 - All inboards and inboard/outboard motors
Paperwork may be dropped off in the grey drop box beside our 2nd level entrance in the Helix garage. Be sure to include your mailing address and a way to contact you (email address and/or phone number).
